Who do I focus on?

Clover - My niece, Clover, was filmed when she was 3 months old over a 6 week period. During this period, I attempted to film all aspects of Clover's daily life, to encapsulate a sense of the real world impact a newborn baby has on a family, but I also wanted to capture the profound affect that Clover indirectly had on those surrounding her. I felt incredibly privileged to be able to film her for my project.

Ellie and Ollie - Ellie and Ollie are Clover's parents, my sister and brother-in-law. Obviously, they play a key role in the film. As Clover is their first child, throughout the film, they express what is really important to them as new parents and who they rely on during this learning process. They stress the importance of the people around them, and how this entire experience is made better because it is shared with others.

The Family - Those surrounding Ellie and Ollie during this pivotal time in their lives. The role they play is to support in any way they can, and their love for Clover is shown both directly and indirectly in the film, through their filmed actions and Ellie's testimony.

Me - â€‹It was never my intention to appear in the film. It was not about me. However, I learned throughout the process that not including yourself is nigh-on impossible. The way you handle the camera, the points you choose to zoom, the addition of music and the structure of the film all massively impact what the film portrays, how therefore how the film is experienced. I openly acknowledge that I did not have to appear physically in the film to tell the entire story.
